Moving out of your Sydney property? Whether you're a renter returning keys or an owner handing over to buyers, this checklist covers the handover standard expected. A clean handover avoids disputes and leaves a great impression.

All Rooms

Empty and clean all cupboards

Kitchen, bathroom, bedroom wardrobes — all must be empty and wiped.

Vacuum and mop all floors

Include under furniture locations. Edge skirting boards.

Clean all windows inside

Glass, frames, tracks, and sills.

Remove all marks from walls

Fill nail holes if required. Remove scuff marks.

Clean light switches and power points

Wipe fingerprints and marks from all switches.

Kitchen

Clean all appliances

Oven, stovetop, rangehood, dishwasher, washing machine.

Clean inside fridge and freezer

Defrost if needed. Wipe all shelves and drawers.

Bathrooms

Scrub bathrooms thoroughly

Tiles, grout, toilet, shower, vanity — all surfaces.

General

Clean garage or storage areas

Sweep, remove cobwebs, wipe surfaces.

Clean outdoor areas

Sweep balconies, patios, and paths.

Remove all rubbish and belongings

Check all rooms, cupboards, and outdoor areas.

Return all keys and access devices

Front door, mailbox, garage remote, security fob.

Tips

Start cleaning at least 2–3 days before your move-out date
Clean rooms you've already emptied first while movers handle the rest
Take photos of every room as evidence of condition at handover
Don't forget hidden areas — inside oven, rangehood filters, behind toilet
